The Duluth Public Utilities Commission on Tuesday approved a resolution that will lower the fee the city charges water customers in the neighboring communities of Hermantown, Proctor and Rice Lake.
The three communities will pay the same rate - $3.02 per 100 cubic feet of water consumed, as of May 1. Rates then are slated to escalate by 4.7 percent each subsequent year through January 2023.
WDIO-TV reported that the commission passed the resolution unanimously.
A previous proposal called for similar increases, but would have built on water rates that were already notably steeper than Duluth residents pay. The resolution passed Tuesday was a compromise after meetings between officials from Duluth and the neighboring communities.
