Two Duluth police dogs will be more secure on the job, thanks to a donation from a nonprofit foundation.
The Massachusetts-based Van Sloun Foundation donated $1,900 for K9s Malakie and Oakley, Duluth police said. The foundation funding was funneled through Vested Interest in K9s, also a Massachusetts-based nonprofit. Its mission is to provide bullet- and stab-
protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies nationwide.
Each vest costs $950 and has a five-year warranty, police said.
Another dozen K9s in Minnesota received vests from money raised during a benefit in St. Paul.
