The Duluth Police Department has a new mission statement and a new set of goals.
The department this week unveiled its new strategic plan - the first to be completed for the city's police since 2008. The new mission statement reads: "To provide a safe Duluth for all by strengthening relationships and serving in a respectful, caring, and selfless manner."
The initiative was announced in October, with the department seeking both internal and external input on strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. More than 800 community members completed an online survey as part of the process.
The process was led by an outside consultant, and police said the plan is intended to guide the department for the next three to five years. The plan was formally adopted by the department's command staff in February.
