A Duluth man is in critical but stable condition after he was injured in a motorcycle accident early this morning.
Thomas Rodne, 41, was found down on the roadway near Rice Lake Road and Baylis Street at 3:19 a.m. by a St. Louis County sheriff's deputy, Duluth police said in a news release.
Rodne was unresponsive and was taken by Gold Cross Ambulance to St. Mary's Medical Center. He had been riding a red Honda motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet, police said.
Police determined that Rodne was northbound on Rice Lake Road when he failed to negotiate a curve and hit the right-side curb. He lost control of the motorcycle, went down and struck a mailbox before coming to rest. It is believed the crash happened just moments before the deputy found Rodne.
The investigation is continuing. Police are asking anyone with information on the crash or Rodne's activities prior to the accident to call investigator Tom Stolee at (218) 730-5475.
