Duluth police officer, firefighter of the year honored

The Kiwanis Club of Friendly Duluth held its 2017 Police Officer and Firefighter of the Year award ceremony on Wednesday.
Duluth police officer Joseph DeJesus and Duluth firefighter Damon Laurion are this year’s recipients, chosen by their peers.
The Duluth Police Department chooses an officer “who best exemplifies the values, work and dedication of the department,” the Kiwanis Club reported. The Duluth Fire Department picks a firefighter “who best represents all the values, character and work ethic of the department.”
“This annual event is held each year to remind our dedicated public servants that the brave and dedicated work they do each and every day is appreciated and worth honoring,” the club said in a news release.
