The Duluth Police and Fire departments are investigating an apparent arson fire early Wednesday at 3605 Piedmont Ave.

The house was abandoned and vacant, according to a Duluth police news release, and it's believed that someone forced open a back door. Investigators determined the cause of the fire was arson. The house was a complete loss.

Anyone who saw a person or vehicle in the area between about 12:15 and 1:15 a.m. Wednesday is asked to call police arson investigator Todd Kuusisto at (218) 730-5709.

Tipsters also can call the Arson Hotline at (800) 723-2020. Rewards of up to 2,500 are offered for information leading to the identification of persons responsible for the fire.
