Eight organizations with a focus on public safety initiatives have received funding from the Duluth Police Foundation, it was announced this week.
Vice chair Peg Johnson said the foundation contributed about $14,000 to CHUM, Safe Haven, First Witness, Lake Superior Child Abduction Response Team, Duluth School Patrol, Police Reserves, Valley Youth Center and the St. Louis County Law Enforcement Chaplaincy.
It is the second grant cycle for the group, which awarded about $20,000 to several groups last year.
"The Duluth Police Foundation offers us some great opportunities, not only to support initiatives inside our department, but also our supporters outside," said Lt. Mike Ceynowa. "All of these groups are integral in our community safety initiatives that help us do our job better."
The nonprofit was founded in 2012 with a stated focus on community safety initiatives, technology and training. An all-volunteer group, the foundation recently launched a website, duluthpolicefdn.org, with more information and an opportunity to donate.
