For all the lack of quarters, forgotten parking meters and all the accidental tickets that ensued, there may soon be an app for that.

Duluth is exploring letting drivers pay for parking with their smartphones with an app that also will remind folks if their meter is about to expire, according to a city news release issued Friday. The program would also allow users to extend meter times from their phone

The Duluth City Council will vote on an agreement with PassportParking Inc. at its Monday meeting. The proposed agreement includes a fee of up to 35 cents that could be passed on to customers using the mobile service, which could be available as soon as July.
