A man injured in a snowmobile crash Friday night on Pequaywan Lake remained in critical condition on Monday in a Duluth hospital.

Chase Dedominces, 20, of Duluth was operating the snowmobile when his machine struck an island near the center of the lake just after 9:30 p.m., according to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.

Both Dedominces and a passenger, Travis Wigstrom, 19, of Duluth were thrown off of the snowmobile. Both were taken by helicopter to Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth with head injuries, the Sheriff's Office said.

Dedominces remained in critical condition on Monday, said Essentia Health spokeswoman Maureen Talarico. Wigstrom wasn't listed as a patient, she said.
