A Duluth man faces an indictment for multiple counts of interstate transportation of stolen motor vehicles.
Gale A. Rachuy, 60, was arraigned Friday on multiple counts of interstate transportation of stolen motor vehicles, according to a news release from John Vaudreuil, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin in Madison.
A federal grand jury in Madison indicted Rachuy on Sept. 1.
Rachuy is charged with purchasing vehicles from dealerships and from an individual using closed-account checks and then transporting the vehicles across state lines knowing they were stolen. If convicted, Rachuy faces a maximum penalty of 10 years' incarceration, $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, a $100 special assessment and restitution on each count.
The charges were the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI Eau Claire, Wis., office, the Superior Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Duluth Police Department and the Carlton County Sheriff's Department.
