A Duluth man is facing felony drug charges following an undercover investigation by Cloquet police.
Shawn Patrick Archambault, 50, was charged in Carlton County Court on July 9 with one count of first-degree sale of methamphetamine and one count of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance.
According to the criminal complaint filed against Archambault, Cloquet detectives met with an informant who advised them that Archambault was in possession of a large quantity of methamphetamine. The informant told police that he had purchased five grams of meth earlier in the day, and because he did not have the $500 immediately available, Archambault had agreed to front him the drugs with the understanding the $500 would be paid later.
Archambault then made arrangements to meet the drug buyer in the parking lot of a local discount store to collect the $500 plus sell him an additional amount of meth for $1,000.
Detectives then provided the informant with $1,500 in marked currency to use for the drug buy.

Both the police and the informant then went to the designated parking lot. After a period of time, Archambault arrived, went to the informant's vehicle and got into the front passenger seat. Once inside the vehicle, the report stated, the informant gave Archambault the $1,500 in exchange for 12.5 grams of meth.
Following the culmination of the drug transaction, Archambault was stopped by police and he was arrested for the sale of methamphetamine. Police retrieved the $1,500 in marked bills that Archambault had pocketed, and a subsequent search yielded an additional two grams of meth on his person.
Archambault faces his next court appearance on Monday.
