A Duluth man was arrested early this morning in connection with a sexual assault Sunday evening in Morgan Park.

The 29-year-old was arrested at a Morgan Park home at 12:54 a.m. today without incident, according to Robin Roeser, Duluth police deputy chief. The man was taken to the St. Louis County Jail pending charges of second-degree criminal sexual conduct and attempted first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Tips from the public and diligent police follow-through led to the man's arrest, Roeser said.

"We took this case very seriously," he said. "The suspect victimized the entire community."

The News Tribune generally does not identify suspects until they have been formally charged with a crime.

At approximately 7:15 p.m. Sunday, Duluth police responded to a reported attempted sexual assault on the railroad tracks along the St. Louis River below 86th Avenue West between Concord and Falcon streets.

The suspect was described as a white male in his late 20s to early 30s, 5 feet 9 inches tall, medium build, short thinning light brown hair, clean shaven with glasses. He was wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt with black printing on the front and was traveling on a bicycle.

The man did not know the victim, a 24-year-old woman, police said.
