Duluth man arrested for series of burglaries

A 24-year-old Duluth man was arrested Friday on five counts of burglary and one count of auto theft following a string of burglaries this month, the Duluth Police Department reported.

A 24-year-old Duluth man was arrested Friday on five counts of burglary and one count of auto theft following a string of burglaries this month, the Duluth Police Department reported.

Duluth police took a report July 6 of a burglary in the 1400 block of Page Street during which jewelry was stolen. Another burglary was reported July 11 at a home in the 3800 block of East Fourth Street, in which a handgun and shotgun were among the stolen property.

On July 12, a 2009 Toyota Corolla was stolen from a garage in the 1800 block of Wallace Avenue and later recovered on Stroll Avenue. On Wednesday, police took reports from the 900 block of Valley Drive, another residence on the 3800 block of East Fourth Street and one on the 400 block of Lakeview Drive, of burglaries in which someone forced entry to the homes and stole jewelry and money.

Following an investigation, police identified a suspect and obtained a search warrant for his home. Many of the stolen items were found inside, including the handgun and shotgun. The suspect admitted to the burglaries. He was transported to the St. Louis County Jail on four counts of second degree burglary, one count of third degree burglary and auto theft.
