Police arrested a Duluth man Wednesday for allegedly trying to steal a motor vehicle.
Officers were called to the 100 block of East First Street shortly before 11 a.m. after a vehicle was found to have been rummaged through and was not drivable because of damage to the ignition area. A surveillance camera captured images of a man entering the vehicle shortly before midnight on Tuesday. He was inside the vehicle for approximately 20 minutes before leaving on foot. An officer recognized the suspect as a 33-year-old Duluth resident with prior convictions for burglary, motor vehicle tampering, domestic assault, assault, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The man is being held at the St. Louis County Jail pending formal charges for felony attempted motor vehicle theft and misdemeanor motor vehicle tampering.
