Duluth images on display
We've seen plenty of beautiful pictures of Lake Superior and Northland nature, but images of the city of Duluth as art? Photographer Jason Huntzinger sees it everywhere in the city. Since 1999, he's been photographing Duluth, aiming for definitive photographic images of the city, much like Henri Cartier-Bresson did with Paris and Ansel Adams did with the American Southwest. Huntzinger's previous subjects have included Las Vegas and rural Wisconsin.
Duluth is largely unknown as a subject in the art world, Huntzinger says. But his black-and-white photographs may change that. See them at Lizzard's Art Gallery, 11 W. Superior St., today through Sept 29. An opening reception will be from 4-7 p.m. today during the monthly Gallery Stroll.
By the way, today marks the last installment of the third annual Summer Art Gallery Stroll, when galleries in downtown Duluth and Canal Park open for special viewings of the work of local and regional artists.
