No people were injured, but three dogs died in a house fire in Duluth on Friday.

The Duluth Fire Department reported that crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the basement window of the one-story, single-family house, located at 2502 Piedmont Ave. The fire, which began at 11:49 a.m., was found in the basement of the house. Fire crews extinguished the main body of the fire, but encountered difficulties with hidden spots within the house, the fire department reported.

The home’s residents had evacuated before fire crews arrived. Three dogs were unable to be resuscitated, but one dog was able to safely escape.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, according to the fire department, but damage is estimated at $85,000.
