Attorney Chelsea Helmer has been named as Duluth’s next city clerk. In that role, she will oversee elections, licensing, voter registration and documentation for the City Council.
Helmer’s work experience includes a previous stints as Duluth’s assistant city clerk and as a research law clerk for the League of Minnesota Cities. More recently, she served as associate attorney at Maki and Overom Ltd., where she provided legal services for local governments throughout the region.
Outside of work, Helmer has served six years on the board of directors for the League of Women Voters Duluth and recently finished a term as president of that organization. She recently received recognition for her community service when the News Tribune named her to its 20 Under 40 list of up-and-coming leaders.
Helmer grew up in the Duluth area and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Minnesota Duluth. She graduated summa cum laude from the Mitchell Hamline School of Law.
