A Duluth dentist faces up to five years in prison after pleading guilty to a federal count of income tax evasion.

Michael James Bussa pleaded guilty Monday to one count of willful evasion tax. He entered his plea before United States District Court Judge Donovan W. Frank in St. Paul.

Bussa was charged on Oct. 12.

In his plea agreement, Bussa admitted that for tax years 2003-2005, he failed to pay $76,695 in federal income taxes and deposited business income in personal bank accounts for the purposes of hiding that income. In addition, Bussa admitted not reporting much of the income he received in the form of cash and from uncovered services.

Bussa also admitted falsely telling the Internal Revenue Service that he never deposited business receipts in his personal bank accounts.
