Duluth airport sets passenger record in March

The Duluth International Airport saw an all-time record number of passengers pass through its gate for the month of March, posting a 25-percent increase from March 2003, said Brian Ryks of the Duluth Airport Authority.

The Duluth International Airport saw an all-time record number of passengers pass through its gate for the month of March, posting a 25-percent increase from March 2003, said Brian Ryks of the Duluth Airport Authority.

A total of 27,047 passengers flew out of Duluth last month, up from 21,683 last year, resulting in the facility's highest March traffic in its 74 years. Ryks credits the airport's new expanded flight schedule from Northwest Airlines, and additional offerings from American Eagle, for at least part of the uptick.

"We're excited that business and leisure travelers have been taking advantage of the new schedule, which includes daily flights to Chicago and Detroit as well as to the Twin Cities," said Ryks. "We hope people will continue to 'Fly Duluth' and support their local airport, so we can sustain these services for many years to come."

The airport began offering three daily American Eagle flights to Chicago and two Northwest flights to Detroit, in addition to nine flights to Minneapolis/St. Paul in early March.
