Twenty-two customers in downtown Duluth were without power between 4-6 p.m. today.

Minnesota Power spokesman Paul Brissett said a problem with a line at 15th Avenue West was the source of the outage.

Stoplights were working but a number of downtown businesses, including several in the Holiday Inn shopping center, closed early.

The News Tribune building was the last still without power when it was re-energized about 6:15 p.m.

The Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites remained in operation thanks to a backup generator.

"With the fuel we have now we can run for four days," said Todd Krollman, the hotel's chief engineer, about 5 p.m. Thursday, "and we can fuel it while it's running."

However, the generator doesn't provide power to the entire building.

"Our mall tenants don't have any power," said Holiday Inn general manager Lisa Augustine. "So folks have closed."

Danniell McCallister, an employee at the Greenery, an eatery in

the Holiday Center, closed up about an hour early Thursday. Seeing that the lights were out, only a couple of people had tried to order anything, even though they had some items on the shelves. "One girl just said, 'Can I have a sandwich?' She gave me some money and said to keep the change," McCallister added.
