Days after the Superior Telegram launched its new feature, "Douglas County's Most Wanted," a reader's tip has led to an offender's arrest.

The arrest occurred this afternoon at the Kitchen restaurant, 803 N. Fifth St.

Ed Flood, owner of The Kitchen, said one of his staff approached him with the Feb. 19 issue of the Superior Telegram, listing Kenneth Fridolf Edberg, 53, as wanted. Edberg faces charges of failing to update his address on the sex offender registry, and a warrant has been active in the case since August, according to online court records. The employee noticed that the picture looked like one of their regulars.

"He used to come here all the time," Flood said, although they never knew his name. "I said wouldn't it be funny if he came in today."

He did. And employees once again approached Flood.

"I thought they were pulling my leg," he said, but then he took a look and saw Edberg. Unsure as to the man's true identity, Flood made the call to law enforcement. Superior police were called to the scene at 12:15 p.m., according to Capt. Matt Markon of the Superior Police Department.

"It would seem as though the (Douglas County) Sheriff's Office giving information to the Telegram has already resulted in the apprehension of, in this case, someone who hasn't complied with required sexual offender registration," Markon said. "Hopefully this will be a very good program for the county."

Online court records show Edberg made an initial appearance in Douglas County Court today and the warrant was canceled. He is in custody at the Douglas County Jail. A status conference is set for next week.

Douglas County's Most Wanted is a collaborative effort between the Douglas County Sheriff's Department and the Superior Telegram. Its purpose is to inform and protect the public.

"It's kind of a neat article they run," Flood said, although he expected offenders listed under a "Most Wanted" title to be sought for more violent, high-profile crimes. He also appreciated his staff, who took notice of the article and of the customer.
