Shooting arrows into the air for fun led to a citation for a village of Superior teen.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Department was contacted Aug. 28 about juveniles on the 6500 block of John Avenue who were randomly shooting arrows from a compound bow into the air, according to a sheriff's department report. One neighbor with two young children playing in her yard had found an arrow sticking out of the ground.

On Tuesday, Deputy Jeff Bethards spoke to one of the juveniles, a 17-year-old. He initially denied firing the bow but soon confessed to shooting it in the air as recently as two days prior.

"When I asked him why he was doing that he replied, 'It's fun,'" Bethards wrote in his report. "I informed him that it was illegal to shoot a bow and arrow within 50 feet of a roadway."

The teen was cited for discharging an arrow from a bow across a highway.
