Heading back over to America's Dairyland, I'm reminded of something I read on HikerCentral.com: "There's no way to get bored in Wisconsin if you adore the outdoors."
In the site's review of Pattison State Park (aka the closest state park to Duluth) it was noted that, if you come at the right time of the year, its water source, the Black River, produces some remarkable whitewater sights.
Well, I'm here today to tell you that ... 'tis the season. As evidenced by some of these photos -- though they do little justice to a firsthand experience -- there's no better time than now to witness this river at its most ferocious.
While the expedition in front of you was concentrated mainly on the area surrounding the "Little" Manitou Falls, I managed to sneak in a picture of the legendary Big Manitou Falls for those who aren't familiar with the park and its biggest attraction.

Get acquainted now: Like I said a year ago, Pattison State Park and its choice set of waterfalls, located roughly 10 minutes south of Superior on Highway 35, may be your new best friend this summer as gas prices continue to break records (and the bank).
