Of all the parks in the Zenith City, only a handful made Deborah Morse-Kahn's recent guidebook "Lake Superior's Historic North Shore."

With good reason, Lincoln Park just happened to be one of them: "Established in 1889, Lincoln Park was among the city's first public green spaces and remains a favorite among residents," Morse-Kahn wrote. "Miller Creek tumbles down from the hills and passes through a district of fine (Works Progress Administration)-era recreation buildings."

The park and its accompanying 1.2-mile Lincoln Park Trail also score points in the guidebook for affording neighborhood residents a chance to escape "in the midst of an urban residential district."

Morse-Kahn couldn't have been more spot-on with her assessment of Lincoln Park and Lincoln Park Trail, which is easily one of the most beautiful and intriguing nature systems in Duluth.

As far as photo galleries go, this edition of "Discover Duluth" is a twofer: "Vol. I" covers the opening stretch of Lincoln Park Trail, which starts in the heart of Lincoln Park. (To get there, find where West Third Street and North 25th Avenue West intersect -- in close proximity to Lincoln Park Elementary School -- and park alongside Lincoln Park Drive. Or, if you have trouble getting around, you can view a good chunk of this first stretch from said Lincoln Park Drive, which will take you as far as Skyline Parkway.) "Vol. 2" covers the stretch of the trail not easily accessible or viewable from the park's paved drive.
