Best of all, established chains sit side-by-side with homegrown favorites that beam with Zenith City charm.
One minute you're at Dairy Queen enjoying a grape Mr. Misty (or whatever the heck they're called these days), and the next you could be meeting an intriguing author at Northern Lights Books & Gifts or enjoying an acoustic set from Eau Claire's QuinnElizabeth at the cozy Amazing Grace Bakery & Café or ... this list could go on and on and on.
More than anything, though, what really makes Canal Park special is its history -- formerly Duluth's warehouse district, it was saved from being a seedy, decrepit eyesore during an '80s overhaul -- and its proximity to Lake Superior, Minnesota Point, Lakewalk and Duluth's pride and joy, the Aerial Lift Bridge.
Oh, and by the way, if crowds aren't your "bag," try visiting Canal Park during the winter months or, like I did with this set, when the hard rain's a-fallin'.
