A weekend ATV crash that left a Brule man dead remains under investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff's Department.
Ronald E. Tahtinen, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene of the one-ATV crash on Bellwood Pit Road in the town of Brule early Sunday morning. Deputy Dan Howe of the Sheriff's Department was dispatched to the scene at 2:04 a.m. after receiving a report of an ATV accident.
A female friend of Tahtinen's asked her son to search possible ATV routes from Lake Nebagmon to Brule for Tahtinen, who was overdue getting home that night, according to a report by Howe. The son and two of his friends came upon the accident scene. They told Howe that when they arrived, Tahtinen was lying on his side, had a very weak pulse and was barely breathing.
First responders who arrived on the scene performed CPR on Tahtinen, but he was pronounced dead by Gold Cross Ambulance personnel at 2:45 a.m.
The ATV was found tipped on its side near the edge of the road, Howe noted in his report.
