The Duluth City Council next month will consider legislation to apply for more than $60,000 in federal funds to develop Canal Park into a major scenic attraction. If approved, the work will be carried out next spring.
Duluth business owners expressed concern yesterday over the growing flock of pigeons in the city and fear that the situation is worsening. The pigeons are causing considerable expense to businesses for maintenance and cleaning.

Despite legal challenges and bad weather, construction is proceeding at the new Lake Superior Paper Industries mill in West Duluth. The $380 million plant is the biggest industrial project built in the city since the U.S. Steel plant in 1916.

Workers are renovating the front of the historic Duluth Press Building, 1915 W. Superior St. The building once housed a newspaper office owned by William "Buffalo Bill' Cody's sister, one of the earliest female newspaper editors in the U.S.
