Duluth business owners, developers and local governments are working hard to ensure that new growth improves the area economy and creates additional resources for people. In turn, economic expansion within Duluth will improve our quality of life by adding services, and generating a broadened tax base.
Yet, for those of us involved in generating economic growth within our community, our efforts sometimes become an onerous and exhausting struggle. Now is such a time. For those of us advocating for the development of Spirit Ridge, it is time to take a deep breath and press on.
Individuals involved in economic development will bear witness to the fact that it seems to be a result of dogged determination. Individuals advocating projects must be willing to rally following consistent disappointments and stay loyal to their cause long enough to be successful.
The Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce believes in the people who are willing to invest in the Spirit Ridge development. We believe in the creation of jobs that the development will make possible. We have witnessed the ways in which jobs can transform individuals, families and, ultimately, communities. We can now draw on that knowledge to continue our support for the development.
The Spirit Ridge Development will enrich our community with additional opportunities for employment. It will generate construction jobs. Our tax base will expand by $250,000 annually .
I encourage community members who support the Spirit Ridge Development to make their voices heard.
David Ross is the president and CEO Duluth of the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce.
