Former chief administrative officer for the city of Duluth, David Montgomery will lead the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation as interim president and CEO while the nonprofit seeks someone to fill the role.
Montgomery retired from the city in 2018 and is a member of the foundation's board of trustees and chair of its investment committee. He will begin immediately in his interim role as the current president as Holly Sampson prepares to retire June 30, a news release from the foundation said. Sampson has served as president for 30 years.
“It’s a privilege to serve this institution, which has done so much good for the Twin Ports and the Northland,” Montgomery said. “The board has secured the services of a search firm, and we anticipate filling this position on a permanent basis soon. In the meantime, I am honored to work with the professional staff, our donors, our partners and other stakeholders to continue the foundation’s important work.”
The foundation is a public charity that encourages private giving in order to improve the quality of life in the region using community endowment-built donations. The nonprofit reaches seven counties in Northeastern Minnesota and three counties in Northwestern Wisconsin.
