The College of St. Scholastica was named a winner of the Jostens/ National Association of Division III Athletics Administrators Community Service Award.
The college competed with other Division III schools nationwide to win the award.
The 280 CSS athletes at the college racked up more than 1,700 hours in community service last year including mentoring high school students, working at ChurchesUnited in Ministry and reading to elementary schoolstudents.
The college earned atrophy and $1,000 for its scholarship fund.
"We're not Division I, but these are students first and they don't get scholarships to play here," said Bob Ashenmacher, communications director at the college. "They are giving so much to the local community, it transcends sports."

In 2004, CSS won a $10,000 community service award from former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, for its reading partnership with Grant Elementary School.
