FARGO — A 35-year-old man is charged with killing two people and a mother’s unborn child.
Anthony Reese Jr. of Moorhead, Minnesota, was arraigned Thursday morning, Nov. 18, in Cass County District Court on three charges of murder, including one that says he killed a pregnant woman.
Reese is accused of opening fire Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 17, at Melet Plastics, also known as Composite America, at 401 27th St. N. in Fargo. Reese was an employee of Composite America, a criminal complaint said.
The two Fargo residents who were fatally shot were 32-year-old April Carbone and 43-year-old Richard Pittman, court documents say.
WDAY reported Pittman and Carbone also worked for the company, and Reese allegedly shot the two after being fired.
Reese got into an altercation with Pittman before the shooting, and then left the business, court documents said. The coworker said Reese was fired after the fight.
Reese then returned a short time later, got into another altercation and pulled out a handgun before shooting Pittman multiple times, a criminal complaint said.
He then turned and shot Carbone multiple times, according to the complaint. It's unclear why he shot the woman.
Carbone was eight months pregnant, the complaint said. She was dating Pittman at the time of the shooting. The unborn child was a girl whom Pittman and Carbone named Layla.
Reese turned himself in Wednesday afternoon at the Fargo Police Department headquarters, which is about two blocks from the shooting scene.
The three charges against Reese are Class AA felonies that carry a maximum punishment of life in prison without parole.
Seeking Reese's response to the charges, The Forum requested a jailhouse interview with Reese, but he declined, according to jail administrator Capt. Andrew Frobig. A phone message left for Reese's attorney, Eric Thomas, was not immediately returned.
