Kaase has been with the DPD for 6 years and is "fulfilling a longtime dream" to become a K-9 handler, according to the release. He's served as a patrol officer and most recently as an HRA investigator with the COP Unit.

The Duluth Police Department thanked the AMSOIL Northland K-9 Foundation for a donation to acquire Athena.
