The Duluth Police Department has confirmed that a person hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the abdomen Wednesday was in fact the victim of the shooting incident in Duluth's Central Hillside and that the injury was not life threatening.
The police department does not believe the incident was a random act and continues to investigate the incident, said Public Information Officer Ingrid Hornibrook in a statement to media. As of Thursday morning, no one was in custody, Hornibrook said.
Shortly after 12 p.m. Wednesday, police received multiple reports on the sound of shots fired. Officers located evidence consistent with reports on the west 100 block between Third and Fourth streets. Around that same time the confirmed victim showed up at the Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center emergency room.
The police department said it will provide more details as they become available.
