The city of Duluth confirmed a gunshot victim following a report of shots fired in Duluth's Central Hillside on Wednesday.
Police responded to reports of shots fired at 12:04 p.m., in the alley on the west 100 block between Third and Fourth streets, police spokesperson Ingrid Hornibrook said. Around that time, someone showed up at the Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center emergency room with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, Hornibrook said.
Police found evidence of shots fired at the scene, she added. As of 1:22 p.m., officers were attempting to locate the suspect, Hornibrook said.
A heavy police presence remained outside the building that houses Kingsley Heights Apartments and Sammy's Pizza on First Street. A sergeant confirmed to the News Tribune there was still no one in custody and wouldn’t say whether officers were searching inside.
Steve Paulson, a resident of a nearby apartment, said he heard several quick bangs.
“It sounded like somebody set off a small pack of firecrackers,” he said.
