A 37-year-old man from Grand Rapids was arrested for setting fire to a house on two separate occasions in 2019.
Sean Daniel Duffney is accused of setting fire in the basement of the house he and his stepfather were living in Jan. 5, 2019, according to a news release from the Grand Rapids Police Department. The house is located in the 100 block of Southeast Third Avenue.
The Grand Rapids Fire Department extinguished the fire. The home, owned by the stepfather, was left uninhabitable, with extensive damage. On Feb. 4, 2019, the fire department was called to the residence again. Nobody was home and the structure was engulfed in flames.
Duffney originally denied any knowledge of the fire. On March 15, 2020, he admitted during questioning to starting both fires.
He was placed under arrest and has since been charged with two counts of first-degree arson.
Duffney will make his initial court appearance Monday morning in State District Court in Grand Rapids.
