MINNEAPOLIS — Authorities found a body in the Mississippi River in Minneapolis on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 23, according to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office.

About 12:15 p.m., Minneapolis police and fire department officials notified the sheriff’s office they had spotted the body in the river’s ice near the Franklin Avenue Bridge.

Personnel from the sheriff’s water patrol responded with an airboat, working alongside Minneapolis Fire Department personnel to recover the body. Sheriff’s investigators also responded.

“The ice and river conditions made this an especially difficult recovery,” Sheriff Dave Hutchinson said. “Our water patrol deputies have the equipment they need, but it is still a quite challenging scene.”

No further information was available on Sunday afternoon.
