A 33-year-old man is dead after a shooting early Sunday morning in West Duluth, police said.

The Duluth Police Department responded at 1:47 a.m. to a report of shots fired in the 300 block of North 62nd Avenue West. At the scene, they found a man inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"Investigators were immediately called to the scene," police said in a news release. "This is an active and ongoing investigation, no further details are available at this time."

The block near Keene Creek Park, between Green and Bristol streets, was quiet Sunday, with no apparent police activity or any indication of an active crime scene.

Police did not comment on whether the death is considered a homicide, or if an arrest has been made or a suspect is being sought.

If the incident is deemed a homicide, it would be the city's third in 2019.
