Police closed Lake Avenue in Canal Park on Saturday as hundreds crowded into the street after the University of Minnesota Duluth men's hockey team won its second consecutive national championship.

The crowd tipped over a lamppost and people were throwing bottles when officers arrived about 9:40 p.m., Duluth police said in a news release. The street was blocked off for the crowd's safety, according to the release.

A 20-year-old man was arrested for underage alcohol consumption and disorderly conduct after he threw a snowball at police.

Lake Avenue was opened less than an hour after it was closed, police said.
