1 injured, 1 arrested in Hermantown shooting
A 21-year-old Duluth man was arrested after a woman was shot at a Hermantown hotel early Friday morning.
The Hermantown Police Department said in a news release shots were reportedly fired at the Econo Lodge Hotel, 4197 Haines Road, just before 5 a.m. Witnesses reported seeing a male shoving a woman into a SUV.
Minutes later, according to police, a woman was found bleeding inside a matching vehicle at an address on the 100 block of Village View Drive in Duluth. She was able to identify the man who shot her by his first name, authorities said.
The suspect was walking away from the vehicle when Duluth police officers responded and was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit, Hermantown police said.
The victim, who was not identified, was taken to St. Luke’s hospital in Duluth and underwent surgery, according to police. She was said to be in stable condition as of Friday.
The suspect was booked into the St. Louis County Jail on preliminary charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm.The News Tribune generally does not identify suspects until they have been formally charged.
