Superior teacher sentenced for having sexual contact with student
The 2015 case of a music teacher who had sexual contact with a male student wrapped up last week in Douglas County Circuit Court.
Jennifer Lynn Mihalak, 35, of Poplar pleaded guilty Oct. 27 to two counts of sex assault of a student by school staff. On Thursday, she was sentenced to six months in jail with Huber work release, as well as four years of probation. She was ordered to have no unsupervised contact with minors, to report as a sex offender and pay $922 in fines and court costs.
A third count of sex assault of a student by school staff was dismissed.
According to the criminal complaint, Mihalak was a music teacher at Maranatha Academy and the victim was a 17-year-old student; the two had sexual contact in Superior’s Billings Park on three occasions after school let out for the summer.
