* Vandals tore through four Pike Lake cabins early yesterday, leaving one in smoking ruins and the others in varying stages of destruction. The vandals set fires in each of the cabins and also smashed furniture and destroyed appliances.

* The city of Duluth team won the first Mayors’ Challenge Hockey Game 10 to 3 last night against a team from Winnipeg in the Duluth Arena. A crowd of 2,195 people paid to attend the game, a fundraiser for Volunteers in Motion.

* Citizen lobbyists from Superior are preparing to head to Madison next week for the eleventh Superior Days. A long list of accomplishments from the first decade of Superior Days has some Duluth officials looking into developing a version of the Superior model.

* People who live near Wade Stadium will meet this weekend to discuss ways to solve complaints about Duluth-Superior Dukes baseball games. They have invited Dukes officials to attend for a discussion of problems that include foul balls damaging property, vandalism, security, trespassing, litter and parking.
