WILLMAR, Minn. — A Willmar man pleaded guilty to one felony charge in connection to allegedly restraining a teen in his apartment for at least two days in May 2018.
Jose Agapito Sanchez, 22, pleaded guilty this week to one felony charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He is to be sentenced July 18 in Kandiyohi County District Court.
Sanchez was originally charged with 10 felonies and two gross-misdemeanors. In a plea agreement, Sanchez pleaded guilty to one felony, and charges of false imprisonment and terroristic threats will be dismissed at sentencing along with two kidnapping charges and two gross misdemeanor assault charges.
According to court records, Sanchez and his girlfriend, Ashley Connie Marie Valadez, 25, were accused of detaining a teenager in their apartment for two days.
Two boys promised to pay the couple $1,000 and fled when they didn't have the money, according to court records. One got away, but the other stopped when he heard a gunshot behind him.
Sanchez and Valadez held him captive in their apartment, beating him approximately a dozen times, according to court records.
Valadez pleaded guilty to a reduced felony charge of deprivation of custodial rights and the state dismissed other charges. She was sentenced to jail time served, placed on probation and ordered to register as a predatory offender.
