ST. CLOUD — A kayaker found a body on the Mississippi River near St. Cloud Wednesday evening, June 5.

Around 8:30 p.m., the kayaker called to report what appeared to be a body on the west bank of the river in a back-water area, according to a release from the Stearns County Sheriff's Office.

Responding officers found the body of a Caucasian or Native American man face down in the water. The release said it appeared he had been there "for some time."

The body was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy and identification. He had no identifying marks or tattoos and, as of Friday, he has not been identified.

A small campsite was found near the body, the release said. It's unclear if the man was staying at that site.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office at 320-251-4240 and ask to speak to the on-call investigator.
