Second Street between Fourth and 24th avenues east will be officially open to traffic starting Monday as the city of Duluth completes its reconditioning work.

That project, including utility improvements, storm sewer and sanitary sewer spot repair and hydrant replacement, cost

$3.5 million and was paid for through State Trunk Highway Turn Back monies. Additional work restoring boulevards and sod remains, but should not interrupt traffic.

The repair is just in time to provide an alternate route for drivers on Superior Street, which will undergo mill and pave work beginning Thursday between 10th and 21st avenue east. Access to businesses and residences will be available during the entire project.

While the city anticipates closing the westbound lane of Superior Street between 14th and 21st avenues east for about a week, the eastbound lane will remain open to traffic. Once the westbound lane of the street is finished, it will open to traffic while the eastbound lane is closed.
