Construction for sports center begins today

The Duluth Heritage Sports Center Board of Directors met on Tuesday to authorize Kraus Anderson Corporation to mobilize and commence construction of phase one of the sports center on Thursday, June 28.

The Duluth Heritage Sports Center Board of Directors met on Tuesday to authorize Kraus Anderson Corporation to mobilize and commence construction of phase one of the sports center on Thursday, June 28.

Phase one of the Heritage Center project includes the Heritage Arena and Heritage Hall which is slated for completion as early as December.

"We're at a point where we feel comfortable moving forward" said Dick Loraas, chairman of the board. "This is a very proud moment for all of our volunteers and contributors."

Early this week, Mitch and Elva Sill announced a $1 Million Leadership Challenge to help complete the fundraising. The committee is hopefully that this challenge will lead to two million dollars or more of the funding needed for the Center.

The Duluth Heritage Sports Center will be the cornerstone of the Clyde Park Development in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. The Center brings together the Boys & Girls Club, the city, and Duluth School District to promote activities for children and teens.
