The Up North Farm Bus won the inaugural Duluth Soup event Thursday at the Red Herring. The farm bus was among four entrants seeking funding. It won $480 to help turn an old school bus into a portable greenhouse. The plan is to drive the bus around and teach people about sustainable agriculture. Prize money came from the event’s cover charge, said Duluth Soup organizer Katherine Hansberry. “The turnout was much greater than we expected,” Hansberry said. “We had about 100 people. It was overwhelming, and I look forward to bigger and better events.” Duluth Soup will host quarterly arts competitions. The next events will be in February with one in Lincoln Park and another event in downtown Duluth. The group is looking to add a Youth Soup event in May.
