The Duluth community is reaching out to help the family of Donald O'Brien who was beaten on June 9 and died June 10 from his injuries.
O'Brien was the sole supporter of his family, working full time at Chris Jensen Health and Rehabilitation Center plus picking up extra work to make ends meet. He also provided health insurance for his family. His wife has an incurable disease and is unable to work.
Beginning Monday, and running through July 28, Jim Shleton, owner of the Gary Milk House will be giving 50 percent of car wash sales at the Milk House to the O'Brien family.
Then, on Friday, July 28, the Donald O'Brien Benefit Committee is organizing a fund-raiser at the Buffalo House. The proceeds will go to the O'Brien family. A dinner will be served and a raffle and silent auction will also be held at the fund-raiser.
Gift certificates for the silent auction or donations may be sent to the Donald O'Brien Benefit Committee c/o Kelly Johnson, 5166 W. Arrowhead Road, Hermantown, MN 55811. Arrangements for picking up donated items can be made by calling Stacey Kjoberg at 721-5358, Johnson at 393-2557 or Allison Herrick at 625-6407.
