There will be a public showing of "Sophie Scholl: The Final Days," the movie about the white rose anti-Hitler movement of 1943. Monday, Feb. 22

Colleen Belk will present a seminar on the biological basis of sex differences in body shape at 3 p.m. at UMD (in the room Chemistry 150). The free event is part of the school's Body Image and Eating Disorders Awareness Week.

UMD's Jacob Jonker will perform a faculty artist recital at 7:30 p.m. at the school's Weber Music Hall. Cost is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and free for students; ticket sales benefit music scholarships.

The Monday Adult Skaters (Ladies Recreational Club) have an open skate in the DECC arena from 11 a.m. to noon. Tuesday, Feb. 23

This month's Mayor's Night event with Don Ness will start at 5 p.m. in City Hall Room 405.

There will be a screening of the documentary "America the Beautiful: Is America Obsessed with Beauty?" followed by a Q-and-A session with the film's producer, Darryl Roberts, at 6 p.m. at UMD (in the room Life Science 175). The free event is part of the school's Body Image and Eating Disorders Awareness Week.

Dennis James Armstrong, a Level III predatory offender, has moved to a residence on England Avenue in the Riverside neighborhood. The Duluth Police Department will hold a community notification meeting about Armstrong, who has a history of sexual contact with males and females between the ages of 5 and 7, at 6:30 p.m. at Morgan Park's Good Fellowship Center. The third and fourth segments of the six-part documentary series "Unnatural Causes" will be screened for free at 5:30 p.m. at Teatro Zuccone. They concentrate on the connection between diabetes and oppression in Native American communities and why your street address is a strong predictor of your health.

Friday, Feb. 26

Bill and Kate Isles will perform at 8 p.m. at Beaner's Central. The show commemorates the 10th anniversary of Bill's return to music (which just happened to take place at Beaner's). The performance art production "Three Nights in Six Dimensions" will be presented at 8:03 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 6:03 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26-28, at The Venue at Mohaupt Block. The show features Semblesque Performance Company artistic director Jill Ellen Hall, Low guitarist Alan Sparhawk, photographer John Heino and filmmaker Chani Becker in a series of improvisational performances designed to layer upon one another over three nights. Admission each night is a free-will donation with all proceeds going to the American Red Cross for Haiti earthquake relief.

Lake Superior College will host the 18th annual Living Green Conference from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $7 for adults (or $6 with a food shelf donation) and free for children younger than 12. Dr. Arne Vainio of Cloquet will be the keynote speaker.

Positive Energy Outdoor (ed)Ventures' Mush for Kids Winter Family Festival will be held at Marshall School. (Time TBA.) Cost is $10, though children younger than 3 are free. Mush for Kids offers a wide variety of winter activities, including dogsled rides for kids ages 3 to 12, horse-drawn sleigh rides, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, winter camping demonstrations, skijoring, cocoa, cookies, a silent auction and more.

"The Atomic Edge: Design in Print Imagery, 1940s-1960s" will be on display through March 14 at UMD's Tweed Museum of Art. Free.

The Duluth Art Institute's annual membership show is on display through March 14 in the Great Hall of the Depot.

"Bloom Under the Snow," which features artwork from members of the Arrowhead Alliance of Artists with Disabilities, will be on display through March 15 at UMD's Multicultural Center (in the Kirby Student Center).

The St. Louis County Historical Society traveling exhibit "Preserving the Old Country: The Experiences of Croatians, Serbians and Slovenians in St. Louis County" runs through March 16 at the Depot.

"All Fired Up: The Ceramic Arts in Minnesota" will be on display through March 28 at the Depot's John Steffl Gallery.

Paintings by David Ericson and Gilbert Munger will be on display through March 31 at the Depot in the Fesler Hallway.

James Bond, Sherlock Holmes and Dorothy Sayers are the subject of the Karpeles Manuscript Library's latest exhibit, "The Detective, the Detective Scholar and the Spy," which you'll be able to peruse through April 30 at 902 E. First St.

"Form & Surface: Selections from the Glenn C. Nelson Collection" will be on display through Nov. 7 at UMD's Tweed Museum of Art.

The free Veterans' Memorial Hall exhibit "Generations of Service," which spans roughly 150 years of military service and includes locally donated artifacts, is now open at the Depot. See www.vets-hall.org .
