Comments sought on Minnesota Steel project

Public comments are being accepted by the Minnesota Deparment of Natural Resources through July 23 on a final Environmental Impact Statement on a proposed $1.6 billion Minnesota Steel project near Nashwauk.

Public comments are being accepted by the Minnesota Deparment of Natural Resources through July 23 on a final Environmental Impact Statement on a proposed $1.6 billion Minnesota Steel project near Nashwauk.

The project includes an open pit taconite mine, stockpile areas, crusher, concentrator, pellet plant, direct reduced iron facility, steel mill, and construction of a new tailings basin at the site of the former Butler Taconite tailings basin.

Written comments on the adequacy of the final EIS should be submitted to Scott Ek, principal planner, Environmental Policy and Review, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Division of Ecological Services, 500 Lafayette Road, Box 25, St. Paul, Minn, 55155-4025. All comments are due by 4:30 p.m. July 23.
