The week of September 11th will forever cause Americans to stop and remember the tragic events of that day in 2001.
As part of St. Louis County's remembrance, the County Extension Office, County Veterans Service Office, and the area veterans' community are planning a special event for noon Friday, Sept. 12.
In cooperation with the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, a commemorative tree planting ceremony is scheduled at St. Louis County's new Public Safety Building, 2030 Arlington Avenue, located on the Chris Jensen Health & Rehabilitation Center campus. The planting launches the landscape plan for the campus, and is designed to honor the sacrifice, service, and memory of the victims of 9/11 and the military heroes and veterans who continue to protect our freedom.
The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum has provided a specimen Northwood Red Maple tree to be planted and dedicated with a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion. St. Louis County has chosen to combine this memorial with the 50th anniversary of the Arboretum as Minnesota's premier public garden.
As a thank you, St. Louis County citizens who attend the ceremony will receive the University of Minnesota Arboretum publication, "The Value of Trees" which contains a coupon for free admission to the Arboretum through October 2008.

To further honor our local veterans and their service to our nation, after the event, the public is invited to attend an open house at the new location of the Duluth Veterans Service Office in the Amendola Building, 405 E. Superior Street, Suite 130. Refreshments will be provided.
